Echoes of the Maestro – Song 89 – Baala Kanakamaya Chela
Saagara Sangamam is one of those Telugu movies where everything came together Directions, Story, Screenplay, dialogues, performances, and music. I’m pretty sure many composers could have done justice to the film, but K. Vishwanath chose Illayaraja and turned this film into what it is. Like most of Illayaraja’s songs and music, they always play a key part in the movie and the songs and this movie is no different but everything in this film was just 200 times more and that’s why the movie and its songs stand the test of time.
Saagara Sangamam marks the only film that was a debut and the last film of multi-faceted but primarily known as a Singer S.P Shailaja. While there are many songs that people remember this one might have slipped and this is the second or third time I’ve listened and such a soulful song is what I feel. Baala Kanakamaya Chela is based on Thayagaraja Kirtana and is based on Atana Raga. For me the highlight was Kamal’s dance in the kitchen area man was so elegant in his dance performance throughout this film.
