Echoes of the Maestro

Echoes of the Maestro – Song 7 – Surangani Surangani

Many would have heard this song just like me, there have been numerous versions across India and there have even been a couple of remixes also. However, I didn’t know Illayaraja had his version for the movie Avar Enakke Sontham.

This wasn’t my first choice but when I saw that Surangani was part of this album, I couldn’t resist but talk about it. Surangani Surangani was originally a Sri Lankan song by A.E. Manohar aka Ceylon Manohar. The song became so popular that Ceylon Manohar sang it in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. When I was searching for this song on Youtube I stumbled upon a Burmese version of this song. (Man this is exciting).

I tried finding the Original song but couldn’t get my hands. However, Ceylon Manohar performed this song on stage in multiple languages. Check that song as well.
