Echoes of the Maestro – Song 47 – Sennorita, I Love You

Johnny is one of the wholesome albums from Illayaraja and it’s hard for people to not love the songs. One of my all-time favorites is Senorita, I Love You. What’s interesting about this song is that the prelude sets a different mood than the rest of the song. It starts off with high energy, then when the lyrics begin, the music mellows down. It feels like Illayaraja is expressing the initial excitement the lovers have and then the comfort between lovers through the music. It’s really exciting to analyze older songs like this.

Echoes of the Maestro – Song 60 – VUzhaipaali Illadha

I especially chose this song because it was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Whenever this song gets played on TV or Radio I used to dance like Rajni it seems and it still is one of my favourites. Vaali brilliantly laces the song with the typical Rajni message but also does justice to the title and the Coolies. Mano simply elevates the song up a notch.
