Talking about the Rajni – Illayaraja combo and not talking about Aasai Nooru Vagai is a grave injustice to both. For my Generation, that is 90’s kids Kutty bhai Yuvan Shankar Raaja was the one who introduced this song through his remix in the “Kurumbu” movie.

Aasai Nooru Vagai is from the movie Adutha Vaarisu which was directed by Thalaivar’s friend and well-wisher S.P.Muthuraman, which is a remake of a Hindi film Raja Jani which itself is loosely based on the Hollywood film Anastasia.

Aasai Nooru Vagai has a special place in Tamil cinema for making it one of the fun Disco songs which has Rajni dancing for it and having fun himself. Also, specially designed for such songs as Malyasia Vasudevan who rocks it with his mesmerizing voice. This song is sure to be in many of Illayaraja’s Playlists and one of my favorites too 🙂

Here’s the remix version from Yuvan Shankar Raaja and it was super popular back then when it was released. Kurumbu was Allari Naresh’s debut in Tamil as well.
