Chinnakannan azhaikiran is one of those that invokes a calmness in you whenever you listen to it. A couple of days back when I wrote about Kaadhal Oviyam song from Kavikuyil I discovered that Chinnakannan azhaikiran is also from this album and from that time it has been ringing in my head.

I somewhere read that Reetigowla Raga envokes Bhakti and is mixed with immense joy, this song exactly does that and no wonder Illayaraaja chose this raaga.

Instead of listening to Balamuralikrishna’s version listen to S. Janaki’s version there’s a stark difference, even though most of the beats remain the same the emotion her version evokes is completely different than that of the Male version. I’m adding both versions for you.
