I especially chose this song because it was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Whenever this song gets played on TV or Radio I used to dance like Rajni it seems and it still is one of my favourites. Vaali brilliantly laces the song with the typical Rajni message but also does justice to the title and the Coolies. Mano simply elevates the song up a notch.
Maamanukku Mylaporu thaan is a fun song and through this song, I got to know some of the areas in Chennai like Mylapore, Tambaram, Avadi, Mannadi, etc., With Malaysia Vasudevan’s mimicry voices this got even more enjoyable.
Vaangada Vaanga is yet another typical Rajni Intro song with all the elements to it, from giving a message to how good a man he is and whatnot. Maaveeran (1986) is an official remake of the Hindi film Mard and also has two distinct specialties. This is the first film to record all the six-song tracks using the stereophonic sound and the first Tamil film which was completely shot in the 70mm Film format.
Rajavukku Raja Naan da can be attributed to your typical Rajni Intro song which it is fun to watch and laced with a life message. I remember watching this song on a Music channel when I was a kid and was amusing to see the car driving on top of buildings when I rewatch this song now all of them are iconic buildings of Chennai
Vachukava Unna Mattum was not only famous back in the day but it became widely popular after Chinna Bhai Yuvan remixed the song for Silambattam. It is a song that transcends time and is popular even today in both the Simbu andThalaivar versions. This song is set in the Sankarabaranam raga which is said to be mellifluous but also gives a majestic presentation of the songs.
Yet another Disco song from the Rajni – Illayaraja combo, even though the song is set on a Disco floor but it is a folk song out and out. Interestingly, this song starts as a disco, but immediately after the prelude, and briefly, after the 2nd pallavi, the music jumps back to Disco mode and jumps back into folk mode.
Naan Than Toppu is one of those Rajni songs that falls into the Disco song troupe and also a genre called teasing the lead lady. This genre is often part of Tamil Cinema and is used to showcase the macho of the Male lead, even though this song is not as crass as Poomaalai. Sitting in 2024 and can’t fathom because they are the product of their times.
