Echoes of the Maestro – Song 30 – Janani Janani

This post marks the 30th song in the Echoes of the Maestro series. To make it even more special, I’d like to talk about my favorite song by Illayaraja.

Despite being an atheist and not particularly spiritual, this song evokes emotions that are hard to describe. I don’t know if it’s the music, the lyrics, or Illayaraja’s voice that does it. I stumbled upon this song randomly a decade ago, and it has been one of my favorites since then. I believe many others might share this feeling, and I’m grateful that I discovered this song. If you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend listening to it with good headphones to truly experience the magic of Janani Janani by Illayaraja. I’ll share the amazing audio version of this song as well.

Echoes of the Maestro – Song 60 – VUzhaipaali Illadha

I especially chose this song because it was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Whenever this song gets played on TV or Radio I used to dance like Rajni it seems and it still is one of my favourites. Vaali brilliantly laces the song with the typical Rajni message but also does justice to the title and the Coolies. Mano simply elevates the song up a notch.
