In a scene where Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu) learns a portion of a backstory from his father on why his mother left him and his dad. His frustration of being an unwanted son and his yearning for love from both his parents was evident. One of the few nicely written moments in the film where Mahesh Babu’s conviction speaks a lot, so does what the movie wants us to feel about the lead character. However, is that enough?

Veera Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu), is estranged from his mother Vyra Vasundra (Ramya Krishnan) when he was a kid during an accident. Unfortunately, he becomes partially blind and his father “Royal” Sathyam (Jayaram) is sent to jail for accidentally killing Dokka Lenin Babu (Sunil). While Ramana is with his father’s family, Vasundra goes on to marry Pakka Rajagopal (Rao Ramesh) and goes on to become the Minister of Law with the support of her father Vyra Venkata Swamy (Prakash Raj). After being estranged for 25 years Vyra Venkataswamy calls for Raman to officially break his relationship with his Mother. Did Ramana sign the document? Why did his Mother leave him and why they were estranged forms the rest of the story.

Trivikram looks like playing in the safe field, even though he aims to bring the drama of an estranged Son and Mother, the emotional beats lose focus. because the director chose to do only fan service. The first 20 minutes of the movie establish a clear conflict and it should have been a cakewalk for someone like Trivikram however, it frizzles out in between and gives a high in the last 20 minutes. Is it Trivikram’s decision to play safe or Mahesh Babu’s? We don’t know.

The director and hero are teaming up for the third time. Their second collaboration, “Khaleja,” did not make a profit at the box office, but it became a cult classic of Telugu cinema. After almost a decade, the two have joined forces again for “Guntur Kaaram,” and there are high expectations for the film.

Although Ramana, played by Mahesh Babu, delivers a solid performance, other brilliant actors such as Ramya Krishnan, Prakashraj, and Rao Ramesh give more of a caricaturish performance over time. Sreeleela’s character is not well-developed and she seems to be there only to perform some dance sequences and make Mahesh Babu show off his career-best dance skills. The movie is fun to watch but lacks standout moments, except for a few brilliant ones.
